Uniting for Hope:

Highlights from Bridge the Gap

On August 31st, 2024, The Hope Movement Coalition celebrated a profoundly impactful day with our annual Bridge the Gap event, held on International Overdose Awareness Day. This gathering was more than just an event—it was a sanctuary for those affected by substance use disorder, a place to honor loved ones lost to overdoses, and a platform to advocate for change.

Staci James, Executive Director of The Hope Movement Coalition, founded this initiative after tragically losing her son to fentanyl poisoning in 2019. The event has grown exponentially over the past five years, becoming a beacon of support and unity for those impacted by substance misuse and fentanyl poisoning.

The Arkansas Angel Banners were a poignant centerpiece at the event, displaying the faces of Arkansans lost to substance use disorder and fentanyl poisoning. We read over 250 Angel names and hosted 106 family members at our Angel Family Luncheon, creating a space for collective mourning and mutual support.

“To anyone struggling with substance use disorder… Don’t hide because of the guilt and the shame. Reach out to someone. We have an amazing recovery community in this state,”  — Staci James

“To anyone struggling with substance use disorder… Don’t hide because of the guilt and the shame. Reach out to someone. We have an amazing recovery community in this state,” James urged during the event. Her words resonate deeply, underscoring the mission to provide unwavering support for those navigating the challenges of addiction and loss.
